The Swiss Side developed aero cavities in the patented tread pattern function as vortex generators, creating turbulent airflow on the surface that enables the air to stick to the rim shape of the front wheel. VORTEX Generators
The tire certainly looks different: 48 little cavities are regularly distributed over its surface. We call them vortex generators as they are the very features that manage to control the turbulence in the airflow on the surface of the front wheel. Ultimately, this results in a perfected storm that allows for the reduction of drag of the entire wheel tire system.

Aerodynamic drag - low speed
The AERO 111 is a tire like no other that operates on any wheel in any conditions delivering true quantifiable performance improvements.The beauty of the AERO 111 tire is that it delivers a speed- independent sailing effect and handling improvement. This means that the average rider at 30 km/h will benefit the most. We call this the «democratisation of wheel aero performance.

Aerodynamic drag - high speed
While our HADRON² Ultimate 625 wheels already have a strong aerodynamic performance, it is at yaw (cross-wind) angles greater than 10° that the wheel and tire system with the AERO 111 tire shine. We can see from the red curve that the sailing effect (drag reduction) increases as the yaw angle goes beyond +/-10°.

Note that the AERO 111 Tire on this wheel produces thrust, so-called negative drag, beyond 13° yaw.

This turns into an overall faster wheel and tire system.

Although the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is still one of the fastest and most popular road bike tyres, it did not stop the developers of the German manufacturer from launching a tubeless-ready (TR) version that has been improved in all areas.
At first glance, the 5000 S TR can hardly be distinguished from the previous version. However, the familiar Lazer Grip profile structure conceals a completely newly developed structure. In contrast to the previous version, the 5000 S TR has only 2 instead of 3 layers of fabric under the tread. This ensures better adaptation to the ground and contributes significantly to reducing rolling resistance by 20%. Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the non-slip Black Chili tread taken from the previous version, the reduced number of layers does not have a negative effect on puncture protection. The sidewalls still consist of 3 layers with a newly added protective layer. This not only improves the puncture protection of the sidewalls by 28%, it also ensures that the tire runs more stable at low air pressures. A new, patented tube construction, which does not require a sealing rubber layer, makes the tire 50 grams lighter than the previous version.
Long awaited by many Conti fans, the new 5000 S TR is now also compatible with hookless rims. However, it can still be ridden with classic clincher rims and also with tube .
The new tubeless tire has already proven its outstanding properties and versatility in racing. Both the world championship title in the individual time trial and the victory at Paris-Roubaix could be achieved on the 5000 ST R.

VECTRAN BREAKER
Vectran ™ is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fiber based on a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran™ is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multifilament yarn. Spider silk as well as Vectran ™ have an enormous tear resistance with the lowest weight. A higher puncture resistance and lower weight are the advantages of the Vectran breaker. Vectran is more cut resistant than aramid, 5 times more tensile than steel and lighter than nylon thread without affecting rolling resistance. Thus, it offers the ideal protective layer for the tire. Vectran was developed for airbag systems in the automotive and aerospace industries.

CONTINENTAL GP5000 TT TR TIRE (TIME TRIAL - TUBELESS READY)

Filipo Ganna, double time trial world champion and hour record holder, proves to be the ideal collaborator for the development of a tire specialized in time trials. In partnership with Daniel Bigham, British racing cyclist and aerodynamic engineer, Continental has made significant improvements to the TT. Weighing 35 grams less in 25 mm compared to the Grand Prix 5000 S TR, this tire is a real technological feat.

This new tyre, like the brand's other models, is compatible with rims without hooks (max. 5 bars like the AS) and is also Tubeless. According to the firm, the ideal assembly to improve rolling resistance is to use a 28 mm tire at the rear and a 25 mm at the front, with both sections available.

The Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR is exclusively offered in black sidewalls, and uses the BlackChili compound for the rubber, as well as liquid crystal polymers and Vectran for the anti-puncture reinforcement (five times more resistant to tearing than a nylon carcass). As on the AS, the Lazer grip allows better cornering, while the Active comfort ensures effective vibration filtration.
