The original MTB group continues its legacy of remaining the standard for mountainbikers everywhere. Nearly three decades in, the Deore XT brand is defined by its trail-tested durability, reliability and performance. As mountainbiking becomes faster and faster and the terrain even more technical, the M8100 series aims to give the rider the necessary feeling of confidence and safety.

Following the principle of passing on the experiences and technologies of the top series, the Deore XT incorporates the innovations of the high-end XTR components. Accordingly the new 12-speed groupset features of course Micro Spline and Hyperglide+.

Shimano Deore XT M8100 Enduro brake set consisting of the ergonomic BL-M8100 brake lever and the powerful BR-M8120 4-piston caliper. Trouble-free maintenance is provided by the proven One Way Bleeding concept and the Easy Hose Joint System which simplifies brake hose exchanges.

Shimano Ultegra Di2 ST-R8170 STI brake/shift lever

The ST-R8170 STI levers are not only characterised by their optimised ergonomics and even more precise dosing of the hydraulic disc brakes, but also impress above all with lightning-fast shifting processes, which are achieved not least through the Wireless functionality.

The wireless connection also offers another advantage: without electric cables, installation is easier and the cockpit appears tidier. Nevertheless, the shift/brake levers still offer a cable connection (EW-SD300) for the use of additional shifters in the drops or the top of the handlebar. For numerous customisation and configuration options, compatibility with the improved E-Tube Project app, which, like previous versions, allows you to adjust shift modes (Synchro-/Semi-Synchro-Shift, Multi-Shift), shift speed and button assignment on the fly.

To ensure that the braking performance is in no way inferior to the shifting functionality, the Ultegra Dual Control levers feature Servowave technology. With the help of an extended brake control range, this ensures excellent dosing that offers optimum comfort and control even in challenging conditions. Of course, for individual adjustment, the levers feature the option of reach and free stroke adjustment.

Shimano Ultegra BR-R8170 disc brake caliper

All around improved, the Shimano Ultegra BR-R8170 caliper offers optimised dosing, quieter braking performance and extremely simplified maintenance.

While a faster-gripping initial braking force always gives the feeling of full control, the 10 % increase in brake pad spacing allows for a significant reduction in noise during braking, despite a flatter overall construction. In addition, when the RT-MT900 brake disc rotor (sold separately) is used, its deformation-resistant design, even with increasing heat, helps to create an extremely quiet and smooth braking system.

To simplify maintenance, the hydraulic 2-piston brake caliper not only features the proven One-Way-Bleeding system, but also a separate arrangement of bleed nipple and opening screw. On the one hand, this minimises the risk of the bleed kit hose slipping off when opening or closing the system and, on the other hand, makes it unnecessary to dismantle the caliper from the frame for bleeding process.

At first glance, the BL-M9100 brake lever has barely changed from its predecessor. From a technical point of view as well, the master piston and the mechanics were largely taken over by the M9000. However, the suspension of the lever has been fundamentally revised. The wider clamp in the center of the lever not only provides more space for remote lever attachment, it also provides significantly more rigidity. In combination with a support of the master piston on the handlebar, the brake lever offers a significantly more direct brake feel. According to Shimano, this design increased stiffness and braking power by 10% and achieved a 30% faster response. For optimal accessibility, the reach of the lever is adjustable.
