The use of 13 and 15-tooth pulleys allows for a shorter chain cage that can still handle MEGARANGE gearing, wide ratio gearing and 34-tooth sprockets. The SMART CAGE pulley plate of the Shimano ALTUS RD-M310 rear derailleur not only looks better on the bike, it also provides the added benefit of more ground clearance.
