Two years of development, the essence of 30 years of racing experience and the expertise gained from 50 years of tire production are all contained in the Maxxis Assegai, Greg Minnaar's signature tire."My idea was to design a tire using the best Maxxis tread patterns. I started in the center with a combination of the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason for this was that the DHF's surface rolls well and provides excellent grip on hardpack, in slippery corners, and on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II rolls even better and can brake more aggressively.
Then I added an 'extra' knob to give you more support and a consistent feel when you lean the bike into corners. That brings us to my favorite tire—the High Roller. The Maxxis engineers and I reshaped the High Roller's side knobs to give it pretty much the same characteristics as the original. But with the support of this extra knob, you have the ultimate wingman when you're charging hard into flat corners.
Finally, I adopted the knob height from the Shorty. The knobs are well supported, so the raised tread can bite into forest floors and dry, dusty surfaces."
